CGA DIRT Report Now Available! The Common Ground Alliance has released findings from its comprehensive Damage Information Reporting Tool (DIRT) Report. The estimated total number of underground utility damages occurring in the United States in 2009 continues the recent trend of decreasing from the previous year.

New Ticket Entry Feature During the week beginning Monday, February 1, 2010, VUPS will install a new version of Newtin. This will have features that will prevent us from issuing duplicate UPDATE or REMARK tickets on the same ticket number. The new feature will help prevent unnecessary duplicate tickets from being issued.

New Virginia Marking Standards Manuals A new version of the Virginia Underground Utility Marking Standards manual is now in print. The latest edition is labeled "Fifth Edition". Click here to see the manual in PDF format or click here if you are interested in receiving copies of the new manual.

NEW Ticket Confirmation Emails! Miss Utility of Virginia is now providing excavators an email copy of their New ticket. This will be sent for the following ticket types:
- Normal
- Update
- Remark
- Meeting
- Designer
- Special Project
- Emergency
Callers and Web Ticket Entry users will receive this copy as soon as the ticket is sent to the utilities being notified of the proposed excavation. These copies may be saved by the excavator for future reference.
Positive Response confirmation messages will continue to come at the appropriate time, providing the responses from all utilities notified on the ticket.
Ticket Confirmations and Positive Response information are both sent from this email address: tickets@missutilityofvirginia.com.
Our Help Desk may not be available to assist with ticket lookup requests, so please take advantage of this free service!

Parcel Data for Web Ticket Entry is HERE! Parcel Data is coming to Web Ticket Entry! This tool will assist WTE users to more accurately identify their excavation area on each ticket. Miss Utility of Virginia will introduce Parcel Data to WTE on Thursday, March 26, 2009.
A Help Document has been developed to help show WTE users how the Parcel Data will appear and how they can use this in entering tickets. Click here to read the Help Document.
WTE users can also refer to the "WTE Training Module Review" that they can access once they are logged into their WTE accounts.
- After selecting the Review Course, users should choose "Mapping" from the Table of Contents.
- Now select "NEW! Parcel Data" to see detailed information on the new tool.

Work Type List Revised When you call the Miss Utility of Virginia call center, we categorize your excavation work into one of 100+ categories. This is a general category that roughly describes your work. We use the "Excavation Area" field to describe the exact type of work and the exact location. Our list of work types has been updated. Click here to view a copy of the new list.

Virginia Pilot for Locating Accuracy Update Phase I of the Virginia Pilot for Locating Accuracy has been completed. Click here to read the final report on Phase I. The report was prepared with input from the Project Team, the Project Steering Group and outside reviewers.
Phase II will began in 2009 and will conclude in early 2010. It will focus on the creation of electronic manifests, which will be uploaded to VUPS and viewable by the excavators. The coordinates from the manifests will be overlaid on the Miss Utility of Virginia ortho-photography maps. Updates of this pilot phase are normally presented each month at the Advisory Board meetings by SCC Staff.
