This section is designed to assist homeowners in understanding how to use the Miss Utility of Virginia system to avoid damaging underground utility lines on their property.

Homeowners should contact Miss Utility of Virginia by calling 811 or 1-800-552-7001 at least 3 working days (excluding weekends and legal holidays) before beginning any digging project.

Some examples include:

  • Landscaping
  • Digging holes for fence posts or a mailbox
  • Anchoring supports for decks or swings
  • Removing tree roots

Remember, even if your project is small, it's always best to call. It's a free service!

Protecting Homeowners' Personal Information

In order to maintain confidentiality requests by our callers, there will be some changes to "Ticket Archive" search criteria.  Ticket Archive can be used to quickly access tickets by ticket number or street name only.  VUPS will continue to provide members with full access to ticket information.  Additional information is available to excavators through Newtin, once a Web Ticket Entry account has been established.  Additionally, sensitive information about the caller has been removed before posting tickets on the Internet.
